Opening Day!

Sno Mtn opened yesterday November 28th with a variety of terrain, some interesting obstacles, and with reduced operations. It is a great sign that the mountain was able to open and everyone is curious to see how this season will turn out for Sno Mtn.

Lift serviced terrain included the Beginner area, Cannonball, and Boomer. Conditions were great on all of these trails and traffic was moderate. Mainline may be the next trail to open, but no other snow making progress could be seen on any other trails.

The base area now contains several unfinished waterpark features that take up some much valued real estate for beginner skiers and anyone passing through the base area. The wave pool spans out across the beginner area and into the bunny slope reducing it's size to half of what it was last year. It is also a barrier to thru traffic between Spike, Iron Horse, Cannonball, and the Bunny Slope. And...a new Children's pool is sectioned off in the base area between the lodge and the patrol building.

While many skiers made the trek to Sno Mtn. for one of their earliest opening dates, the mountain operations were at a minimum. Part time workers have not been asked to come to work yet so all departments from Ski School to Group Sales have very few workers to handle the influx of skiers on this holiday weekend. The cafeteria included little to choose from and the bar/restuarant closed before 6pm for a private party(on opening day???).

Sno Mtn will continue to be open through this weekend, but will then close until next Friday. The weather outlook still looks positive for snow making and hopefully more terrain will open soon.

Sno Mtn opening this Friday!

It's offical, Sno Mtn will be opening this Friday from 9am until 9pm. There will be skiing and riding on Cannonball, Boomer, the bunny slope, and the rail garden. The mountain will continue to be open during the weekend, but will then close at 6pm Sunday until next weekend.

Snow on Sno?

Sno Mountains website and Sno Mountains employees claim that the guns are going and opening day is on Thanksgiving, but the mountain appears to have very little snow. No substantial changes have been seen in snow cover and no snowmaking has been reported during the day. The mountain is likely to be only blowing on off peak hours, but that apparently isn't making much of an impact. Temperatures look favorable for snowmaking through next week, but Thanksgiving is fast approaching at only 4 days away.

Opening Soon?

Sno mtn is still making snow when ever temperatures dip below freezing(aka during the night). Cannonball, Boomer, Mainline, and the lights nearest to Whistler were on for snowmaking tonight. Everything seems to be going well in terms of snowmaking.

Will the mountain be ready even if there is a decent base for skiing? The rental 'trailer', previously known as the ski school kid's building, somewhat successfully made the journey to the other side of the lodge to it's new home. Word has it that it's still in two pieces and one would assume that indicates that it's not ready. Also, the base area is still littered with random unfinished waterpark features just waiting for next spring to come around. It's rumored that this will not be covered during the winter, but fenced off requiring skiers to navigate around.

When will Sno open? The opening day is Thanksgiving day. That's one week and counting...

Snow making has begun!

It's Tuesday November 18th and snow making has begun at Sno Mtn! The word has it that several trails on the north face and upper mountain were lit for snow making this evening. The Sno Mtn website (http://www.snomtn.com) confirms this and claims that they will be making snow all weekend for an anticipated early opening this year. Stay tuned for more updates on snow making and other changes for the new ski season at Sno Mtn.
